Oceanista reveals how the style and culture of sailors has been borrowed in high fashion over the decades. The exhibition of the Maritime Museum of Finland showcases ocean-inspired fashion designed by internationally renowned fashion houses and Finnish designers.
The designers include Chanel, Thom Browne, Jean Paul Gaultier, Iris van Herpen, Maison Margiela, Moncler, Pierre & Gilles, Eilish Macintosh, Philip Treacy, Sumiko Iwakiri, Versace, Idaliina Friman and Anne-Mari Pahkala.
The extensive exhibition, which features a total of approximately 110 garments and accessories, also includes ocean-inspired and highly nostalgic classics and street wear, dating all the way back to the end of the 19th century.
The exhibition is being produced by the National Museum of Finland in cooperation with Expona, based on an exhibition at the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark.
